Directions to Green Mountain Base Camp and Red River Base Camp
From Boise to Red River Road:
Take Hwy 95 to Grangeville. Go through Grangeville on Main St.. Just past the C&C convenience store on the left is a Yamaha dealer (Tackett's): turn right. There is an Elk City sign there but it is hard to read. About two miles the road Y’s off by an outdoor theater, stay to the left, stay on that road all the way to the bottom (South Fork of the Clearwater River). Follow the river upstream on Hwy 14. At approximately Mile Post. 46 you will see the Sawmill. Make a right on the Red River Road. towards Dixie. (See Red River Road to Base Camp)
From Missoula Montana to Red River Road:
Take Hwy 12 through Lolo Montana (long drive between gas and food). Then turn left on Hwy 13 through the town of Kooskia. Follow Hwy 13 to 14. At approximately Mile.Post.46 you will see the Sawmill. Make a slight right on the Red River Road (See Red River Road to Base Camp directions)
From Lewiston to Red River Road:
Take Hwy 95 to Grangeville. Turn left on Main Street through town of Grangeville and travel through downtown. Just past the C&C store on the left is a Yamaha dealer, turn right. There is an Elk City sign there but it is hard to read. About two miles the road Y’s off by an outdoor theater, stay to the left, stay on that road all the way to the bottom of hill (about 8 miles). When you come to the river go straight on Hwy 14 up the South Fork of the Clearwater River). At approximately Mile Post Marker 46 you will see the Sawmill. Make a slight right onto the Red River Road going towards Dixie. (See Red River Road to Base Camp)
From Red River Road to Green Mt. Base Camp:
Approximately 16 miles you will see the Red River Ranger Station. Continue on paved road towards Dixie past the Ranger Station and about ¼ mile turn left onto the Darby, Montana Road (468). Go about 19 miles. Turn left onto 285. Drive about 6 miles and when you go around a sharp corner and you see a road that V’s off turn right. That is the driveway to our camp.
To Red River Road to Base Camp:
About Mile Post .46 just past the Sawmill turn right onto the Red River Road going towards Dixie. When you see the ranger station take the road that goes to the left It will turn into a gravel road fairly soon. Go about 9 miles to trailhead 1170 and turn right.
